September Round-Up

Writer's picture: Boca WarriorsBoca Warriors

September saw our Boca Warriors really get going with a couple of marquee races: The annual Holloway Park Jamboree 2023 and the 41st Spanish River XC Invitational, 41st Annual 2023.

Both of these races bring high-quality runners to the events, and teams travel from across the state to participate. The competition was fierce, but our Warriors rose to the occasion, again.

These were two events that really let our runners see how they have progressed since the start of the season.

Holloway Park Jamboree 2023 (9/16)

Almost everyone who ran got a new PR. It's great to see the improvement that follows from consistent practice.

Some notable performances include the 3rd-5th Grade Girls' Team getting 1st place, with 6 (six!) Boca Warrior girls placing in the Top 10,

Oliver Valderrama led the way for the 3rd-5th grade Boys, with a Top Ten placement (7th place) and broke the 9 minute mark with a time of 8:50.80.

The Girls' 5th-8th grade Team took 3rd overall, and were led by strong runs and Top 10 placements by Barbarita Jedlicka (5th place) and Adriana Perrette (9th place).

Spanish River XC Invitational, 41st Annual 2023 (9/22)

The competition heated up again about a week later at the Spanish River XC Invitational. This is a local event, but some of the best-of-the-best show up for this race, so it's a great opportunity to see how our team stacks up against quality competition.

Held at beautiful South County Regional Park, our athletes ran in the Middle School division.

The Boys' Middle School Squad performed really well, coming in 2nd overall, placing only behind Belen Jesuit, a perennial powerhouse team.

Mason Polonia continues his strong season and was our top middle school boy performer, finishing 8th overall, and finishing with a sub-11 time of 10:58.70.

Erik Moss finished as our #2 runner, with a strong run of 11:11.80.

Our team's #3 finisher was Banks Stroup, who is only a 4th grader. Banks, if he were in the 6th grade, would be ranked as the #10 - 6th grader. Amazing performance Banks.

Mark Barba (5th grade) also had a great race, finishing 8th out of all 6th graders (or lower) - a total of 64 racers.

Dylan Vining also is ranking high, currently #13 out of 500 6th graders.

On the Girls' side, our Girls' Middle School team finished 2nd overall also.

Barbarita Jedlicka finished 3rd overall, and is ranked # 11 out of 450 7th grade girls. Congrats Barbarita.

Makaela Morilla (6th place) and Adriana Perrette (7th place) also finished in the Top Ten.

Adriana is currently ranked #4 out of 450 6th grade girls. Congrats Adriana.

Our girls' 2nd place finish was helped in large part by 4th grader Ana Lucia Barba & 3rd grader Arielle Gorlovetzky. If Ana Lucia & Arielle were in the 6th grade they would be ranked 12th & 14th. Hayden Frey, who finished 7th on our team is also a 4th grader and would be the 21st ranked 6th grader. An amazing group of elementary runners. Stick to it girls. Your futures look really bright.

A special highlight of the Spanish River event was Barbarita Jedlicka being interviewed by MileSplit. You can see the full interview on MileSplit here and the complete results here.
